Panpak/Coca Cola Bottlers – Ireland

Company Profile

Panpak is a Coca Cola bottling company subsidiary which produces PET Plastic Bottles (polyethylene terephthalate) in Greenore, Co Louth. This is done through a process of Injection Moulding, Blow Moulding and Thermoplastic Blow Moulding.

Situation

Panpak have multiple production lines. There were operator stations in each of production areas and in the QA lab for recording samples of preforms and bottles on paper. These records include attributes, preform thickness, preform weight, bottle base weight, bottle height and diameter, peak vertical load and bottle capacity. A variety of instruments perform the measurement including balances, force gauges, burst testers, perform profilers and bottle profilers. Pankpak required a solution to electronically collect data from these various instruments, perform statistics and to store quality data for each product type and to display SPC charts for each product type.

Solution

Measuresoft developed a solution based around it’s standard ScadaPro package to acquire the data from various instruments and to store the data. Measuresoft developed a front end application for use in the production areas and in the laboratory for selecting product type and for co-ordinating the collection, statistical calculation and storage of quality data. A workstation running ScadaPro is provided in each of the production areas in and in the laboratory. The data is logged via Access and is replicated on a scheduled basis to a central server. The workstations and servers are connected via a wireless LAN which was supplied and installed by Measuresoft and which allows data to be transferred between buildings. SPC charts are provided via the versatile trending facility in ScadaPro.
